Many of my "church going" friends challenged me with the question: What about the kids?
First off children don't need Sunday School to know Jesus Christ. Our kids are being immersed in Christ's life through daily prayer together, daily story telling, and showing kids how we see Christ in the world around us, one another, and in scriptures.
Here's a practical picture: I take our oldest to school most days. On our way every morning we talk about the beauty we see in the neighborhood( we live in an old part of town with a lot of greenery). We are unpacking the truth that Christ is beautiful.
This discussion time is edifying to me and my child. She gives me a child's perspective on Christ and I give her community with another Saint.
I can honestly say we have grown closer to each other and Christ through this practice.
When you leave the program behind for Christ alone it can be hard to break through the indoctrination. When we take joy in the simple things of Christ, He expands and our old selves pass away.
The point is when the "event" (institutional church) is no more and the reality that we are the church is presented daily it helps put Christ first.
